Here at the Square Foot Gardening (SFG) Foundation, we always look to help local communities. We noticed the Amish people have been heavily affected by the recent economy. Mel heard that their woodwork was exceptional and he found a great family who wanted to produce our SFG boxes.  They have produced the best garden planters we have ever seen. As Mel has always taught - Children are womderful gardeners ! These boxes are made special just for them! Their smaller arm length can reach all the way in to the middle square. They will be able to proudly tend and nurture 9 plants in the 3x3 or 4 plants in the 2x2.

This particular box was Mel's unique design and our best-selling raised bed design - just like the 4x4 we have available for adults. All you do is drop the pin into the pre-drilled holes in each corner and you're done!  You'll have a garden in just minutes that's ready to plant.  This open bottom yard box is merely laid down on the ground.  It also comes with weed fabric to cover the bottom.  All you have to do is add Mel's Mix and you're ready to plant.  It's just that easy!

We have two different colors for this box.  The Red Cedar is absolutely pristine in both color and aroma.  The white cedar is a stunning color that is very attractive.  We also offer two different sizes:a 3'x3' for kids, and a 2'x2' for a unique layout.  You'll be happy with any of these combinations, so pick what suits your family best.

When Your Box Arrives

Take your box out of the bag immediately in order to avoid any mildew that may be caused by condensation.  Then, you can safely set your box aside until you are ready to install.

Installation Instructions

1. Open bag, remove items and lay out.
2. Fit the four sides together and line up the holes.
3. Drop in the pins and the box is all assembled!  Wasn't that easy?
4. Pick a location - a spot that is out of the shade and gets 6-8 hours of sunlight is best.
5. Do not dig up your existing ground.  Just lay the weed mat down and lay the completed box on top (box can be laid right on the grass, but mow closely first).
6. Fill with Mel's Mix (not included).
7. Assemble and place grid on top of box.
8. Plant.
9. Relax and enjoy!
