So you want to teach Square Foot Gardening. That’s good news.  They say that SFG is so simple and easy to learn (especially for beginners) AND, it is equally as easy to teach for the very same reasons. 

All you really need to do is to download and learn from the web site's following pages:

1)  What is SFG.

2)  How to SFG.

3)  The four latest improvements. (The short version)

4)  Testimonies. (first page is probably enough)

5)  Pick any of the special info. sheets listed in the handouts section below.

     Tell any experts or veteran gardeners in your audience to HOLD ALL questions until the end.  Those experts will keep saying, "Yeah-but" or "What about ..." while at the same time your beginner gardeners will be saying, "That makes sense," or "I can do that."

     Square Foot Gardening is so simple and easy that now, much of the information we thought we needed to garden, (things like soil types, pH, drainage, root spread, soil deficiencies, plant fertilizer requirements, types of fertilizer and what they do) are all irrelevant and don't even have to be considered with Square Foot Gardening.

      If time permits, show the introductory video or at least portions of it.

Another idea:  Some people order books and videos in bulk from us at a discount and make a lot of money at their classes.  You may also charge a class fee and use the SFG name and information; but please get our permission first.  We only ask for a 10% donation to the Foundation for that permission.

    How to build Teaching Props

     Standard 4 ft x 4 ft size garden (for kids, 3 ft x 3 ft)

    Step 1.   To show the actual size of a garden, cut a 4 ft x 4 ft square                   out of cardboard, have it plain on both sides if possible.

                 (Hint)   Measure both diagonals; they should be equal if square.  

    Good cutting tools:

        Wood saw, Kitchen knife with serrated edge, Box cutter

    Sources of cardboard:

       Refrigerator, Giant TV, Mattress, Bicycle, or Dishwasher Box

    Step 2.   Using a thick black marker (about ¼” wide) draw, on one                   side only, a 1 ft x 1 ft size grid.

    Uses of Props:

       1.   Show basic size of Square Foot Gardening.  

       2.   Walk around to reach in.

       3.   Flip to show importance of grid.

       4.   Lay on table to show wheelchair garden.

       5.   Space 2 or 3 end-to-end to show 4 ft x 8 ft, and 4 ft x 12 ft garden.

       6.   Space 3 ft apart to show walking aisles.
