How to build Teaching PropsStandard 4 ft x 4 ft size garden (for kids, 3 ft x 3 ft) Step 1. To show the actual size of a garden, cut a 4 ft x 4 ft square out of cardboard, have it plain on both sides if possible. (Hint) Measure both diagonals; they should be equal if square. Good cutting tools: Wood saw, Kitchen knife with serrated edge, Box cutter
Sources of cardboard: Refrigerator, Giant TV, Mattress, Bicycle, or Dishwasher Box Step 2. Using a thick black marker (about ¼” wide) draw, on one side only, a 1 ft x 1 ft size grid.
Uses of Props: 1. Show basic size of Square Foot Gardening. 2. Walk around to reach in. 3. Flip to show importance of grid. 4. Lay on table to show wheelchair garden. 5. Space 2 or 3 end-to-end to show 4 ft x 8 ft, and 4 ft x 12 ft garden. 6. Space 3 ft apart to show walking aisles. |
