Square Foot Gardening includes vertical gardening and it is absolutely perfect for vine crops, including cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, melons, pumpkins, etc. Anything that grows on a vine will grow on vertical frames if you provide the proper support. Read the chapter in the All New Square Foot Gardening book on vertical gardening which describes everything you need to know. Pumpkins and watermelon are considered to be advanced Square Foot Gardening as they require extra-strong vertical frames.
