I'm a first time SFG'r and am shopping for the materials for Mels Mix. My local Home Depot doesn't seem to have much selection. Does any one know a better place to purchase the materials locally? I tried Armstrong Garden Supply but was very pricey.

Thanks

I was able to get my vermiculite, peat moss and a variety of different composts from Greem Thumb Nursery in El Toro. They are at the 405/5 merge. Call in advance to make sure they have it but they will order it - everytime I need it they have it in stock. The price was more than reasonable.

Just a little heads up since we live in the same area - I found that I needed to water almost everyday when it was hot which was often impossible with my schedule. If you build you boxes a couple inches higher (like 10 inchs rather than 6) I think you'll have better success. I'm thinking about putting another 6 inch box on top of mine so they have a little bit more soil so it will hold the water better.
